I remember when I was little and we would picnic near the water, my daddy would always manage to find one nearby in some swampy pond and try to lure them on shore with pieces of fried chicken. I’m not sure what he would have done had he ever been successful. My mother usually put a stop to it pretty quick.

Well we don’t have alligators but we do have a 6 foot snake as our pet. She will grow to between 10-12 feet. So in the reptile family anyway.
